1:02 am - Behind The Scenes Photography

A few days a go i did this photo session.
This time, Chika my friend become my model.

I did this photo session in midnight on the
bathroom and I only need 2 minutes for making this picture, so I called this picture 1:02am.
I'll show you how easy and fast to make this picture.

Picture below show you the flash lighting setting.
The bathroom dominated with white color. So i only used one Visatec Solo 800B bounced to the ceiling.

I used Nikon D70s DSLR camera with nikon fix lens 24 mm f/2,8. One of my favorite lens :)
As usual, I do adjustments on Adobe Camera Raw 4.0 first on Adobe Photoshop CS3. I give a red label on the part that I change. (click to enlarge)

As seen on the picture below, we can see the difference between the original picture and the after adjustments one. Not much editing but we get significant difference.

In the next step, I want to make the hair looks more red. So I use selective color, and make some adjustments on the red channel.

Red arrow show you that the color getting more red, and the green arrow show you the part of picture that I masked to get the skin tone not too red.

Last step, I do burning and dodging, especially on the hair and face to make it look brighter.

Ok.. thats it!
Very simple session that only need one flashlighting and post processing less than two minutes. Hope you like it :)

Birthday - Behind The Scenes Photography

I did this photo session a few days after my birthday :)

I invite my friends, who’s also models, to make a ‘Birthday Photo Session

They are (left-right : Fahria Yasmin, Nathalia Tjoei, Shindy Daisha and Jessica)

In this session, I was also helped by my friends when I was in high school, Arinda Christie as a stylist.

Wow, it wasn’t easy to gather 4 models in one photo session. Actually the session should be started at 2 pm, but in fact it started at 5 pm. This is what happens when girls get together. Gossiping .. choosing the clothes .. dress up.. and those activities take more than 3 hours!!! Oh my God!!!

Ok, finally the photo session begins..

This is the flash lighting setting.

I only used 2 flash lightings and green wall as a background. One flash lighting with a softbox was located higher than the other flash lighting that uses a photoflex white umbrella. I used Nikon D70s and Nikon 18-70mm lenses.

As I said before, it’s not easy to take a picture of 4 people at the same time. Sometimes one model looks good on one frame but not really good on the other frame. There are many imperfect shots that you can see below.

And finally I get the picture that I like! The models expression here looks perfect!

As usual, I do adjustment on Adobe Camera Raw 4.0 first on Adobe Photoshop CS3.

I give a red label on the part that I change.

As seen on the picture below, we can see the difference between the original picture and the ‘after adjustment’ one.

In the next step, I want to make the color on this picture looks stronger and contrast. I get it by copying the Background Layer three times, and then I change each blending mode in a series which is soft light, screen, and multiply. (look at the picture below)

Sometimes blending mode-multiply makes the picture too dark and too contrasts. So I lessen the opacity and fill on that layer.

I was still not satisfied with the skin tone on the picture above, which was too red. So I did adjustment by using hue/saturation. I did correction on the red channel.

Ok.. and finally I got the skin tone that I like.

Next, I want to make the background looks greener. Here I use selective color by doing correction on yellow channel.

In the last step, I do burning and dodging, especially in the models faces to make them look brighter.

Ok, thats it!
